Prescription Medications for Acne
Today we will look at a list of prescription medications that a dermatologist may utilize when putting together an acne treatment regimen for you.
Antibiotics: Although these can be quite effective in an acne treatment regimen you should take extra care because overtime the acne causing bacteria can and will develop immunity
Retina: You should always apply sunscreen while applying this antibiotic topically. This medication has proven quite effective in the long term due to it containing vitamin A.
Accutane: This medication is also derived from vitamin A but it is taken orally. Care should be taken when using this particular medication because it comes with some strong side effects. When taken by women who are pregnant it can cause birth defects. You should only use this type of medication if you have a severe acne treatment.
Differin: This medication is quite similar to Retina. The reason it is similar is because it is derived from vitamin A and comes as a tropical type cream. It does have some advantages over Retina though. The biggest being that it has less skin drying effects. When Retina is unavailable Differin is an excellent substitute.
It can be extremely difficult to find an acceptable and effective acne treatment. There are so many solutions out there to choose from you should have no problem finding one that suits your needs. Keep in mind if you have a history of allergies you are better off going to a professional in order to avoid any severe or permanent damage. Laser surgery has become the latest fad in acne treatments. There have yet to be any serious side effects associated with laser surgery except dry skin which helps in an acne treatment anyway.
There are quite a few acne treatments available out there that are easy and pain free. Don’t forget to consult your dermatologist for the best acne treatment for your situation.
